Roundtable on reporting practices to increase the impact of Supreme Audit Institutions
SIGMA held a roundtable for the Network of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of Candidate and Potential Candidate Countries and European Court of Auditors (the Network), in Paris on 20-21 March 2019. The event, which was hosted in co-operation with the State Audit Office of Montenegro, focused on the reporting practices of SAIs to increase the impact of their work. The roundtable brought together the SAIs of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey.
Increasing the effectiveness of reporting is an enduring long-term objective of most SAIs. They recognise that high quality reporting is central to building confidence and trust in the integrity and objectivity of the institution, which flows from delivering the right reports to the right audience at the right time
The main objectives of the roundtable were to create a platform for discussion amongst the Network SAIs about the challenges they face with respect to achieving the results that they aim for with their audit work and reports, and possible solutions that can be found.
The roundtable was interactive and based on case presentations. Experts from European Union (EU) member countries informed participants about EU practices, and the Network SAIs shared their current reporting practices and the efforts they have made to increase the impact of audit work through their reports. The roundtable also provided participants with the opportunity to meet informally, compare national experiences and discuss specific issues among peers.
