Albania signed an Association Agreement with the EU in 2009 and submitted its application for EU membership in the same year. In June 2014, the country was granted candidate status. In November 2016, the EU recommended starting accession negotiations with Albania.

SIGMA is currently working with:

  • The Office of the Prime Minister on developing a harmonised methodology and framework for monitoring the implementation of sector strategies and introducing a new regulatory impact assessment system.

  • The Ministry of Justice on developing a Commentary on the Code of Administrative Procedures.

  • The Ministry of Finance on improving the quality of the internal audit function throughout the public sector.

  • The Audit Authority on strengthening capacities for draftingaudit strategies and drafting reports
